In Santo Domingo, the 2026 NORCECA Women's Continental Championship saw Cuba and the Dominican Republic reach the semifinals alongside the two co-hosts, and those two teams claimed the earliest continental tickets. They eventually finished third and fourth, while fifth-placed Puerto Rico took the region's third berth.

In Tianjin, the 2026 Asian Women's Championship handed two berths first to Thailand and China when both reached the final. Thailand won the title, host China finished second, and Japan took the remaining berth by winning the bronze medal match.

In Nairobi, Egypt and Kenya became the first African qualifiers through the final of the 2026 African Nations Championship; Egypt took gold, Kenya silver, and Cameroon claimed the third berth by winning the bronze medal match. In Istanbul, Serbia, Poland and Turkiye reached the semifinals of the 2026 European Championship alongside an already qualified Italy, and all three took the European berths. For Thailand, the berth carries different weight. What to verify next

The remaining 14 berths will reveal the real shape of the 2027 World Cup, and how they are allocated will say a great deal about how far FIVB pushes continental balance. For me, the most interesting test is Thailand: whether one peak week in Tianjin converts into a durable structure across seven matches in North America, or stays a beautiful moment from one summer. The answer is not in the Asian final I just rewatched. It is in group-stage matches nobody will remember by score.
